Mental illnesses are as common as physical illnesses that afflict us. The problem is that many people do not recognize mental illness as a physical illness. Most mental disorders come and go like the common cold. But mental illnesses can become severe, as some colds can worsen into pneumonia.
Now let's see what this OCD is.
The main feature of this condition is: Uncomfortable thoughts, impulses or images keep coming to mind. This cannot be avoided. This is often painful for the patient. That's why you get stressed and those thoughts become unpleasant.
There are several types of these thoughts.
1. Persistent thoughts. (obsessional thoughts)
- As mentioned above.
2. Compelling thoughts to do the same action several times. (obsessional rituals)
These are actions done without meaning or with meaning.
Eg:-
- Trying to inevitably pass certain places while walking.
- Placing the items on the table or in the room in order until they come to mind. (Trying to put the same item in the right place several times
3. Obsessional doubts / compulsions
Doubt about the day's activities, trying to saturate the doubt by doing that activity several times.
Eg:-
- Checking several times that a door is closed.
- Check several times that a faucet is turned off.
-Wash your hands often and frequently, thinking about the presence of germs.
4. Obsessional impulses
A great urge to do certain impulsive (brutal or shameful) acts.
Eg:-
- Thinking of jumping from a moving vehicle.
- Thinking of hitting a small child
- Uncontrollably obscene thoughts.
(Though thoughts like these do not act, only shame and unpleasantness about those thoughts.)
5. Obsessional phobias and anxiety
Fear of the above-mentioned thoughts that disturb the mind. So avoid situations where such thoughts arise.
In addition to the above-mentioned thoughts, other related symptoms can be seen. People suffering from this condition often do many things of the day in a certain order and think that if they change that order, they will harm themselves.
Following many self-imposed rules and taboos.
Being overly concerned with perfection, meaning taking an unnecessarily long time to complete a task. Dissatisfied with the end of the work.
Thinking that only one's own opinions are correct, showing reluctance to accept the advice of others. Having stubborn traits. Thinking that others should follow his ideas.
Spending a lot of time in religious activities. Trying to arrange its procedures very carefully. Here, rather than religious devotion, the fear that those practices will be bad or harmed by mistake.
Thus the temptation to do most of the day's activities according to a certain arrangement. The tendency to start over again when not satisfied with the order of doing something. Doing it too many times can also lead to fatigue and irritation.
Getting used to doing meaningless tasks habitually.
Eg:-
When travelling from home to school or work,
- Mandatory passing of certain places.
- Going by looking at certain landmarks
- Habitual reading of the same nameplate
- Try to keep the comb always in the same place after combing the head.
Performing an action repeatedly. Repeating when times are wrong.
